Moonlight English Boarding School in Birgunj, in collaboration with the Nepal Chess Federation (formerly Nepal Chess Association), recently organized the Moonlight Youth & Cadet National Chess Championship. This championship marked a significant event in the chess community of Birgunj, Nepal.
The championship, held from 10th to 12th Baisakh (22nd to 24th April, 2024), attracted chess enthusiasts from across the country. Participants competed in various age groups, including under 8, under 10, under 12, under 14, and under 18, with separate categories for boys and girls. The event spanned three days and took place at the beautiful Classic Banquet in Birgunj.
A total of 82 participants from 10 different districts showcased their skills and talent in this national-level ranking event. The championship not only provided a platform for chess enthusiasts to compete but also fostered a sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship among participants.
Moonlight English Boarding School, known for its commitment to promoting intellectual pursuits, took pride in organizing its second national-level event. The championship received immense support from co-organizers, including National Infotech College.
The top-ranked players from the championship earned the opportunity to represent Nepal on an international stage. They will participate in the 26th Asian Youth Chess Championship scheduled to be held in Kazakhstan from June 9th to 21st, 2024. This international competition will feature 12 talented players selected from the Moonlight Youth & Cadet National Chess Championship.
Overall, the Moonlight Youth & Cadet National Chess Championship not only showcased the talent of young chess players but also contributed to the growth and development of chess in Nepal.

Moonlight School in Birgunj has a strong commitment to promoting and supporting youth involvement in sports. It’s worth noting that one of their former students, Ajay Chaudhary, is now part of the National Football Team.
